Labiaplasty vs. Clitoral Hoodplasty: Understanding the Difference

These two procedures are often confused — and frequently combined. Here is how they differ and why treating them together can give the most harmonious result.
Labiaplasty and clitoral hoodplasty address neighboring structures, which is why they are often discussed — and performed — together.
Labiaplasty
Reshapes the labia (most often the inner lips, the labia minora) when they are enlarged, asymmetric, or causing discomfort.
Clitoral hoodplasty
Refines and reduces excess folds of the clitoral hood — the tissue that covers the clitoris — when it appears bulky or asymmetric, always preserving sensitivity.
Why they are often combined
Treating the labia minora alone can sometimes leave the hood looking disproportionate. Combining both in a single procedure creates a balanced, harmonious result with one anesthesia and one recovery — which is why it is our patients’ favorite option.
